Brief Kokuba Family Karate History #5

June 11, 2013 by kogawabushidokai

…..Kosho (Shogo) Kuniba synthesized Motobu-ha Shito-ryu in 1956. It was not his father’s style. His father was not a student of Shito-ryu, despite historical assertions to the contrary. I suspect the error of attribution may be due to the fact that both men, Kosei Kokuba (Kuniba) and Kosho (Shogo) Kuniba at different times used the same nickname – Shogo. That could lead to confusion when researching Karate-do history.
