…it was 1956 that he coined the name of his style, Motobu-ha Shito-ryu. His father was beginning to show signs of illness, and Kosho wanted to make his intentions known. His heritage of Motobu-ha Karate-do and his training in Shito-ryu were both very important to him. As heir to his father’s style and a student of the newer Japanese style of Shito-ryu, Kosho Kuniba wanted to honor both. So, he decided to combine the names into Motobu-ha Shito-ryu. This was now and forever his style.
