Kogawa Dojo

October 23, 2012 by kogawabushidokai

Kogawa Dojo Dedication on October 20th
Kogawa Dojo Dedication

I would like to thank everyone who attended the Kogawa Dojo Dedication on October 20th, 2012. And give special thanks to our quest instructors, Mr. John Hamilton, Sho-ha Shorin ryu, Mr. John Rudy, Itto Tenshin ryu Kenjutsu, and Mr. Lenny Jordan, Kyoshinkan Karate-do.

Jordan, Rudy, Hamilton, and Doral

Mr. Rudy discussed the philosophy of a true dojo and what a Dojo dedication means to a ryu-ha. Mr. Hamilton expanded on Mr. Rudy’s information addressing how a ryu-ha develops its identity over time and used Naihanchin Sho kata to represent how physical application adjusts to situational changes. Last, but not least, Mr. Jordan extrapolated from Mr. Rudy and Mr. Hamilton’s information and expressed how unique kata waza, he used the Hoke Kumite from Pinan Shodan, Pinan Nidan, and Pinan Sandan, can be used separately or in tandem, including subtle adjustments related to body mass, height, and mindset.

"Rei"Listening to Jordan-Sensei
Everyone had a great work out, learned a lot, and had a great time. The Dojo dinner, later in the evening, at a local Taiwanese restaurant “Kai Tai,” gave us time to replenish, rehydrate, and enjoy great company.

The Kogawa Dojo officially begins……
