Sho-ha Shorin ryu Training

May 15, 2011 by kogawabushidokai

Mr. Mills and I returned on 5/14/11 from training in Sho-ha Shorin ryu with John Hamilton Sensei who lives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Training with Mr. Hamilton and his students was excellent. We reviewed and improved usage of body mechanics in Karate-do. The review process included the kata Seisan, Sanchin, Naihanchi Shodan, and Pinan Shodan. The process, of course, also included the use of bag work and bunkai. We are progressing in reducing movement and increasing force through proper muscular-skeletal alignment.  This is a primary focus of Mr. Hamilton’s Sho-ha Shorin ryu. We also spent one day training kenjutsu (Nitto Tenshin ryu and Itto Tenshin ryu) through Kumitachi, Happo-giri, and Kihon waza. We are looking forward to Mr. Hamilton visiting the Kogawa Bushido Kai dojo later this year. His visit will tentatively occur in October 2011. Return to the Kogawa Bushido Kai Blog for updates as the year progresses.
