Bassai Dai kata

February 26, 2011 by kogawabushidokai

Mr. Mills, Mr. Nalezyty, and I visited with Mr. Lenny Jordan of Kyoshinkan karate (Shorin ryu and Shito ryu – http://www.kyoshinkan.com/) today. We trained Bassai Dai kata. The exchange of information on bunkai (application) was extraordinary. Mr. Jordan shared bunkai from his training in Shorin ryu and Motobu ha Shito ryu, as well as his own interpretations from decades of training. We trained from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm. He was kind enough to share a few moves of Shogo Kuniba’s Goshindo applications. We debated the differences between technique and application. It was a lively discussion allowing new avenues of thought. We hope to train again soon.
